The Hurt report says more than 13% of motorcycle accidents involve groin injuries.  My guess is that for accidents that involve other vehicles cutting off the motorcyclist, the number is much higher. There is no protective gear that I am aware of, and the manufacturers don't seem to be designing with this problem in mind.
