Motorcycle Jeans

I just sent my favorite cordura jeans down to Wayne Boyer at Motorport.  Every time I deal with him, he blows my mind.  No matter how high my expectations, he exceeds them.

I just wanted a little futzing with the jeans, and leather to deal with a hot exhaust that tends to melt the inside of the right leg.

Wayne called, and we talked.  He said that there have been a few instances of too wide jean bottoms riding up in a get off, with resulting road rash.  Solution?  We (meaning he) is putting in zippers and flaps, so I can have the jean look over my boots, but a safe and tight fit.

Interestingly, I love the Motoport jeans not just because they are more comfortable and breath more than jeans, but because of the real armor and overall safety.

This is interesting because I also love to wear Draggin Jeans.  I never feel totally good about the Draggin jeans, because most of the material is Denim, and they lack real armor.  We all know that riding in the summer is a tough deal, because of the protection/heat trade-off.

Well, I am working with a client who had a relatively low speed accident, and was wearing Draggin Jeans.  Yes, the Kevlar maintained itself, but unfortunately the denim shredded.  The result was that the Kevlar moved off the knee, which was quite cut up, as well as being injured deep in the knee.

Of course, there is always a trade off with safety gear, particularly in the heat of summer.  I feel like the Cordura jeans with armor are a great solution (I haven’t tried the Scholler Kevlar jeans, yet) because they provide a lot of protection, plus body armor, and the protection is everywhere, not just in patches.

I don’t like to preach on the blog, but if you are looking for riding jeans, at least look at Motoport.
